Aomori Museum of Art Collection Exhibition
The genius of the North
Aomori is the northernmost part of Honshu. From this northern land, a variety of talents that could not fit within the framework of so-called "art" were born, capturing the times from a sharp perspective and greatly changing the expression of the times.
Shiko Munakata, who set a unique style for Shinto and Buddha statues and beauty paintings, Ichiro Kojima, who is called Millet of the photography world, Toru Narita, the parent of Ultra Monster's birth, Tetsumi Kudo, who continued to provoke the world with radical objects, poet and playwright Shuji Terayama who led the Angra culture of the 1960s, and Yoshitomo Nara who gained overwhelming support from the younger generation.
This exhibition introduces the artistic qualities cultivated by the climates of Tohoku and Aomori through the collections of the Aomori Museum of Art.
At the same time, we will also explore the charm of the Aomori Museum of Art, which has received high praise for architecture, signs, and uniforms.
