The first exhibition in Japan that showcases Janssen's masterpieces in one hall
These shoes are indispensable to our daily lives. ----these shoes have the most basic functions for humans to wear and walk, but the magic of design transforms into a surprisingly unique object.
Janssen is one of the few prominent designers in the world who know the secrets of such shoe design.
In the Netherlands, where there are few opportunities to be placed on the international stage in the fashion world compared to France and Italy, his presence has been extremely avant-garde and unique since the 1960s.
Bamboo Shoes (1973), which boldly used bamboo for the structure of shoes, and High Heel Sneakers (1977), dominated the world as his extremely creative design.
In addition, Atsusoko Shoes (1989), which was announced ahead of the 1992 pandemic, demonstrates his role as a trendsetter, and the 'Model with floating heels (without heels) model (1989) is regarded as a revolutionary event in the history of shoes, both technically and aesthetically. |

On the other hand, Janssen has worked on freelance designs for brands such as Dior and Charles Jordan, and produced the extremely functional Unisex shoes Bruno (1981), which are still being copied around the world. His shoes, an avant-garde and master, are highly regarded in Europe and the United States.
This project is the first attempt in Japan to introduce the world of Janssen without exception. Prior to the release of Japan, this exhibition was held as a major retrospective at the Hague City Museum in the Netherlands from February to May 2002, and at the German Leather and Shoes Museum from August to October, which received a great response.
Today, when trends from various eras are remixed, following the trajectory of Janssen's shoe design is a very significant attempt, and I am convinced that it will be a great topic in Japan.
