Participating artists
SAMBYPEN
Born in 1992, Sanby Penn spent his childhood in Western Europe and the United States. I went to Parsons School of Design in New York, but dropped out. I realized the similarity between the propaganda image of a socialist country and the signboard of Times Square in New York, I began to create a parody of commercial images. Sunbaipen began building his career as an artist by creating a parody of Michelin's mascot, Bibandam, in 2015. After his first solo exhibition, Sunbaipen has held numerous exhibitions and has grown into one of the most promising contemporary pop artists since his debut.
Palodi's spirit, this artist reinterprets a combination of certain brands and culturally iconic objects. Early works were based on personal emotions and experiences, but recent works are exploring the social issues surrounding us. Artists recreate symbolic paintings and film posters, adding contexts to create humorously. He creates unique characters, configure graphics with text and images, and employs visual modules such as shape, size, and color to enhance the tactile experience.
In addition, SAMBYPEN is known for its unique approach to back calculation of technological development in modern society. He creates a digital graphic design on a computer, transfers it to wood, and then cut it out with the machine. After manually painting the wood, it is finally mounted on the canvas. This painting technique combines a standardized square canvas with freely curved wooden objects to create a 3D effect. The artist's desire to fuse technology with hand-painting colors is reflected in this technique, which seamlessly fuses modern innovation and classical methods.
According to the artist, the purpose of art in society is to provide a unique experience to all individuals, not just some privileged classes. Artists believe that this experience should help people get out of the limits of reality and see the world from a new perspective through his artistic vision. SAMBYPEN aims to provide the power to connect with the audience and to be creative and free. We continue to create unique works that transcend genres, and also collaborate with companies and brands.
Bazbon
Born in 1988, Buzzbon has been deeply interested in street culture, hip-hop, and subculture since childhood. He produces works that span a variety of media, such as illustrations, manga, paintings, and GIF animation. As a teenager in the early 2000s, the rapid spread of the Internet brought into contact with a variety of foreign cultures and arts. He accepted "popular culture" as a major source of inspiration for his life and work, and incorporated various elements into his art, such as painting, manga, music, and camping.
Buzzbon embodies popular culture in his work in response to the emotions and senses of modern society. Artists first create digital drafts and then use different materials such as acrylic, gash, watercolors, and markers to create final artwork that showcase the characteristics of modern visual media and the concept of pop art. For example, his art toy implies the possibilities of contemporary art and is expanding his spectrum in the art world. One of his characters, Shay Di, symbolizes the artist himself and his inner feelings and emotions.
Basbon is a multidisciplinary artist who creates art in a variety of media, including painting, brand collaboration, illustration, art toy, and character design. The artist has collaborated with numerous famous fashion brands such as Nike, Dr. Martins, Ap, MCM, and Elesse.
N5BRA
1995-
N5BRA, also known as Nobra, started his career as an illustrator and later expanded his range of activities to painting. His peculiar name reflects playfulness and intense experience, adding logic to fragmented identity and allows him to freely express his way of life. His work initially focused on the human body, but gradually expanded to include self-portrait and existing themes.
In his work, the body is an important element. The repeated female nudes are the main subject and the central theme of his work. Some interpret these nudes as being a tool that reveals the sexuality of a woman's body or that reveals sexuality linked to his pseudonym. However, in fact, his nude is a kind of self-portrait. The eroticism of his work stems from the existence of human beings and the anxiety it brings.
Through his art, N5BRA casts a subjective question to the audience. These questions have shifted to a new medium, oil painting. The thick texture and multiple layers of oil paint show the artist's process of proving his presence in a meaningless empty empty. The medium of oil painting captures the intersection of N5BRA's experiential life and objective viewpoints. This self-rooted existence and desire for approval arises from an undisclosed experience of undisclosed anxiety.
The person in his work reflects his inner chaos looking for the purpose and direction of life. The intertwined curves are impressive, and the organic structure is not arranged for a single purpose, but emerges from countless strokes and accidental elements on the canvas, creating abstract shapes.
The inner anxiety and the suffering of life cannot be expressed on a simple plane or a single line. Overall, dark color, deep contrast, expressive gaze of the person, swelling lines and brushstrokes suggest long-standing anxiety of sinking in calmness. The highlighted dynamism and randomness are arranged according to N5BRA's unique sense, reminiscent of chaos and stability, harmony and imbalance, progress and stagnation.
MAWZ
1992-
Artist MAWZ has been fascinated by Disney's animated movies and manga since childhood. While studying art at Chuo University, artists created characters that represent themselves and drew the world through their eyes. The artist's stage name, MAWZ, was named after the character of the early work. It was named after inspired by the dream of the birth of a sharks and the movie "Joez".
Artists' works explore surrealism and symbolism, convey messages of real absurdity, personal concerns, social situations, and desires. His work uses a symbolic image characterized by poetic symbolism and animated expression to convey social, cultural and personal concerns. Symbols used include envelopes, ribbons, eagle, and the meaning can be interpreted in a variety of ways based on the viewer's perspective. His recent work focuses on the search of real absurdity and social issues. He constantly experimenting with new materials and thoroughly researches the background and history of the subject, adding depth to his work.
The feature of this artist is the use of matiere, which is expressed in a simple and implicative expression with bright colors and thick brushstrokes. Before you start your work, the artist will carefully record what you want to convey. He draws inspiration and motivation from his imagination, surrounding environment, and personal experience, and draws his own perspective in his work. His recent work emphasizes the background and three-dimensional elements rather than the characters and icons of previous works, giving depth, and highlighting messages. His animation styles and expressions capture deep concerns across different subjects and enable different interpretations among viewers.
Artists have experimented with various media to refine and develop their styles and currently focus on two-dimensional painting, but they have expressed their desire to expand into the production of three-dimensional works. Artists have previously collaborated with various brands such as McDonald's, Volkswagen, Cass, and SM Entertainment to communicate with the general public. MAWZ uses the art production process as a means of expressing his personal quest for the unknown future. He wants to share his journey with the audience in order to spread positive energy and convey the optimistic promises of life.
김둥지Kim Doongji
1992-
Kim Dongji has continued his career as an artist through various group exhibitions and art fairs, including his first solo exhibition in Seoul this year.
Most of the artists' works are considered about the urban environment and their own views on it. From an early age, I traveled to various regions and became interested in nature in the city where I live and the surrounding environment. Artists see cities as a component of people, architecture, and nature. The artistic elements of the city, such as cats, birds, and trees, are depicted on the canvas. They are located at the border between synthetics and nature, or are moving between them. Artists see nature as objects away from the original habitat. Recently, it has been expanding to address the meaning and components of the city, and their relationship. Individuals who have become other people, buildings that have lost functionality and aesthetic value while functioning as monuments to capitalism, and green spaces scattered throughout cities. Artists are paying attention to such urban phenomena.
Despite studying modern objects, expression techniques are classical. He recreates the heritage of the past masters through the thick layer and maximum texture of oil paints. Get out of the past and sublimate it. Dundee depicts the people of the city in a very simple form and color. By eliminating individual characteristics and personalities, it feels like a part of life rather than a specific individual. A glimpse of minimal shape and movement, reflects the emptiness of a person without bond or empathy. By investigating the shades and desires of newly developed metropolitan areas and real estate, he considers urban architecture in its social context. Using cement, the basic medium of modern architecture, create twins of miniature architecture. In this process, you can ridicule contemporary architecture that lacks both practicality and aesthetic value. The facade of the building that comes into direct contact with the human body is exposed.
Kim Dongji approaches the city from a more realistic and calm perspective, rather than sticking to things or fiction, Kim Dongji approaches the city.
