Richard Kern photo exhibition 「Transcending Transgression」

Richard Khan, who led the movement called "Cinema of Transgression" with fetish and fanatic images and photographs, including the PV of the sonic youth "Death Valley 69" in the 1980s, has been presenting works mainly in media such as "VICE", "GQ" and "Playboy" since the 1990s.
Among the vast collections of works, this exhibition focuses on portrait works of women and follows the transition of Richard Khan as a photographer. Richard has been shooting women consistently since his debut, but the texture and atmosphere of the work have changed with the times and series. The shooting method and the expression and atmosphere of the female model are also very different. I would like you to experience the transition of the times with the artist through more than 50 works from the Transgression era at the time of debut to the present.

Richard Khan (RICHARD KERN)
Richard Khan, a photographer and filmmaker, first of all, is a portrait artist. For more than 20 years Khan has been trying to elucidate and illuminate the complex and often dark aspects of human nature. Khan's theme is the psychological space between subjects, photographers, and audiences. With his dry and frank approach, he embarks on the absurdity of truth and objectivity in photography, while at the same time playing with the fact that we rely on classification methods related to sexual expression. - Matthew Higgs
Khan has regularly contributed to Interview, The Face, Dazed, Numero, Vice, and Purple, and has published 28 books. His videos and photographs have been exhibited at more than 50 solo exhibitions around the world, including MOMA and Whitney Museum. Khan is based in New York.
